ITINERARY
Embark on an exhilarating Amazon Rainforest expedition, cruising through breathtaking rivers, encountering diverse wildlife, and crafting your own chocolate at Aguas Negras River Lodge for an unforgettable adventure
DAY 1 – Lago Agrio – Aguas Negras River Lodge
- Morning: Your journey begins with a 2-hour drive from Lago Agrio to “Tierras Orientales” Village at the shore of the Aguarico River.
Navigate downstream along the beautiful white water river on a motorized canoe. - Lunch: Enjoy a picnic lunch in the Secoya Indigenous territory and a chance for a refreshing swim.
- Afternoon: Continue upstream along the Cuyabeno River to Aguas Negras lodge (45 min approx). Watch for wildlife, including pink and grey freshwater dolphins.
- Evening: Short hike before dinner.
DAY 2 - Aguas Negras River Lodge
- Morning: Early navigation to “Saladero” or Salt Licks to observe parrots.
- After breakfast: a guided hike in the primary Amazon rainforest.
- Lunch: Learn about native plant uses and witness the majestic Kapoc tree.
- Afternoon: Enjoy a refreshing swim, relax at the lodge, then an afternoon slow navigation up Cuyabeno River for wildlife spotting.
- Evening: Return to the lodge by motorized canoe, searching for nocturnal wildlife.
DAY 3 - Aguas Negras River Lodge
Morning: Downstream paddle canoeing on Cuyabeno River for wildlife spotting – parrots, macaws, herons, monkeys.
Lunch: Enjoy “Maito,” a traditional Kichwa meal, and a hands-on chocolate-making session using cocoa beans.
Afternoon: Explore Aguas Negras River by motorized canoe.
Evening: Second short hike for a glimpse into the captivating Amazonian nighttime. Farewell dinner at the lodge.
DAY 4 – Aguas Negras River Lodge - Aguarico River – Lago Agrio
Morning: Second birdwatching trip to spot wildlife.
After Breakfast: Navigate downstream on Cuyabeno River towards Aguarico River. Continue upstream to Tierras Orientales on Aguarico River.
Lunch: Enjoy a delightful picnic with a Secoya Native family en route to Tierras Orientales.
Return: Transfer by car from Tierras Orientales back to Lago Agrio or Coca cities (arrival around 3-4 pm). Bus or flight options to return to Quito from Lago Agrio or Coca.

- Pick-up/Drop-off in Coca city incurs an additional charge of $60 for your group. No extra fees apply for Lago Agrio city.
